Spring 2021 services update:
All WWU facilities are now closed to the community. Our water aerobics, pool pass, and Kidnastics programs have been canceled. We will miss our community patrons during this time and apologize for the inconvenience. Stay safe! Find answers to frequently asked questions at wallawalla.edu/coronavirus.
Kidnastics is a gymnastics program in the Walla Walla Valley. Gymnastics classes offer a fun and safe environment for children to learn gymnastics skills, as well as developing coordination, strength, flexibility, spatial awareness, and confidence. Kidnastics classes are small and coached by a team of enthusiastic students from Walla Walla University.
All class times are subject to change from quarter to quarter. Classes tend to fill quickly due to the small class sizes and the size of the program. Due to pre-registration for currently enrolled students, classes may be full before open registration begins. Please note that the spot availability numbers are not updated live as registration occurs. We update the availability after pre-registration but during open registration, they may not reflect reality.
Parent and Tot
Parent and Tot classes are designed for gymnasts ages 2-3. These are parent participation classes. Each child must be accompanied by a parent in order to participate. Circuits are designed in order to increase gross motor development and encourage activity. Tots will love playing with the hula hoops and the parachute.
The Kindergym program is designed for our young gymnasts ages 3-5. Children are introduced to basic skills on all apparatus. To further their gymnastics development, we use a variety of fun developmental activities in a circuit format that also provides continuous movement so they spend less time waiting for their turn.
Every two weeks, the Kindergym program will have a new theme, such as Backward Week or Jungle Week.
The Kindergym program also helps school readiness by teaching children how to follow directions and take turns. Children who show advanced skills and attention spans can be moved to Kinder 2 before they reach 6 years of age.
Classes are two days per week for 40 minutes.
Levels 1, 2, and 3
Levels 1, 2, and 3 are the beginning levels of our recreation program designed for children ages 6 and up. Gymnasts at these levels will use all the apparatus, learning and mastering rolls, handstands, cartwheels, bridges, and basic skills on bars and beam. Level 1 focuses on teaching the basics of each skill, which they will perfect in Level 2. Level 3 prepares students for Level 4, which begins the competition levels. Gymnasts in Level 3 learn back walkovers, back handsprings, and learn more advanced skills on bars, beam, and floor.
We also focus on strength and flexibility. Students will receive a Star Chart every three weeks that tells them what skills they have mastered. When they have mastered every skill on their chart, they will be ready to move to the next level.
Classes for Level 1 and 2 are two days per week for 50 minutes. Classes for Level 3 are two days per week for 60 minutes.
Level 3 and 4 Boys
Once levels 1 and 2 are completed, boys and girls split up. All boys will join this class, which focuses on strength training, tumbling, and use of USA Gymnastics Men's apparatuses. This is our most advanced boys classes. Level 3 and 4 Boys meet two days per week for one hour per day.
|Level 3 Boys -Monday/Wednesday||4 p.m. – 5 p.m.|
|Level 4 Boys - Monday/Wednesday||5 p.m. - 6 p.m.|
Level 4 are the advanced levels of gymnastics we have at Kidnastics. Gymnasts at these levels have now reached competitive levels of gymnastics. More time will be spent on strength and flexibility than in the other classes because it makes the advanced skills safer and easier.
Students will receive a Star Chart every three weeks that tells them what skills they have mastered. They also learn the USA gymnastics routines for their level and perform them when they are ready at the end of the quarter. In order to pass to the next level, gymnasts need to show a certain level of proficiency when showing their routines.
Classes for Level 4 are two days, one hour per class.
Any concerns other than tuition should be directed toward the Head Instructor.
