Winter Choir and Wind Symphony Concert

Music department to bring diverse repertoire to winter concert

The annual Walla Walla University Department of Music Winter Choir and Wind Symphony Concert will be held in the University Church on Saturday, March 9, at 4 p.m.

The concert will feature an arrangement of Amazing Grace by Eriks Esenvalds, Missa in Angustiis by Joseph Haydn, What a Friend by Mark Hayes, and a piece by Grammy Award winner Bobby McFerrin.

Kraig Scott, professor of music and WWU choral director, said the concert will highlight diversity, including diverse musical styles, composers, geographical areas, languages, and time periods. Selections will include pieces composed in time periods ranging from 1540 to the present day, languages including Latin, English, and isiXhosa, and musical styles that include Renaissance motets, movements from a large scale Classic era masterpiece, Anglican psalm-tone, Gospel, South African, modern oratorio, and hymn arrangements.

“This concert is special because it really shows the culmination of the quarter’s, or in the case of I Cantori the year’s, work in choir. This is an important showcase for the whole choir,” said Amelia Pekar, senior English and sociology major who is the choral librarian for University Singers and I Cantori.

The concert is free and open to everyone. The University Church is located at 212 S.W. Fourth St., College Place, Wash.
