WWU student athletes recognized for excellence in academics and athletic performance

During fall quarter, 22 student athletes from Walla Walla University received Cascade Collegiate Conference Academic Awards, presented by U.S. Bank, for outstanding athletic and academic performance breaking WWU’s 2015 record of 17 athletes. The awards were presented to students of at least sophomore standing with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.

“The 22 award winners are recognized for their outstanding performance in the classroom and on the playing field,” Logan Adams, associate athletic director of sports information at WWU, said. “For these athletes to win this award means a lot to not only the athletic department but the university as a whole.

“Being a student athlete is two-full time jobs and to be able to be honored for both of them is an extreme honor for those student athletes. We know ultimately that the most important part of being a student athlete is getting a well-rounded education at WWU, and we would like to thank the faculty for their continued support in helping our student-athletes reach excellence.”

Nine of the awards were presented to members of the men’s soccer team, seven to the women’s volleyball team, and six to the coed cross-country team.
