What is Title IX?

No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance. Read the law in its entirety.

Universities across the country received this letter from the US Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights in April 2011 and as a result, have developed support structures to continue to support students in receiving educational environments free from discrimination, including sexually based violence.

Here at WWU, we have many ways for students to ensure their rightful access to education. President John McVay charged the Vice President for Student Life & Mission help ensure that students have free access to an educational environment free from sex discrimination.

Complaints or allegations of sexual harassment should be immediately reported to:

David Richardson
Vice President for Student Life & Mission
Title IX Coordinator
