Scheduled Maintenance Window on May 14, 2009, 8:00PM to 12:00AM 2009-05-12 08:47

The following are schedule to happen during this maintenance window.

Package updates: Nearly all Linux servers and workstations will be affected.  Several services, such as the web servers (including Oasis), instant messaging, and the email list server, will experience intermittent downtime while the packages are updated.

Console room cleanup:  We will be rerouting some wiring in the console room that will result in intermittent service outages.

Router Issues 2009-05-09 19:52

Update 8:00PM The NAT tables have been reset and have cleared this problem out for the moment. We will continue to monitor the Router traffic to try and find the problem. -- Traffic intended for the internet is not making it past the router.  Trying to find out where they are stopping and why.

For those that haven't noticed, the problem has continued to happen approximately every 12 hours.  An upgrade of the router IOS will be happening soon, hopefully it will fix the problem.

Oasis and Insight down for database patches 2009-04-23 21:33
Update 9:33 PM: Patches are applied, services back online. --Alex A quarterly patch rollup from Oracle is being applied to the database server that hosts Oasis and Insight Thursday night beginning at 9:00 PM (PST). Based on testing, this patch should take approximately an hour to complete. While the patch rollup is one of Oracle's routine quarterly patches, at least one vulnerability is listed as a high threat so we aren't waiting for our usual maintenance window to apply it. Services affected during patching: Oasis, Insight (and related PC Products), 7i, Timecard Online, eDocs.
Packet shaping problems/Internet latency 2009-04-13 17:32
An update to the traffic shaping box has caused some intermittent latency problems with both of our internet connections. A support case is open with the company and the issue is being worked on. The update has more clearly shown us hitting the limits of the current boxes capabilities. To resolve the situation the Packet shaping vendor is replacing our current packet shaper, their highest end unit from last year, with their just released new product free of charge. Improvements should be noticeable beginning of next week. ---update 04/13/2009 17:00--- The new box is here and in place, however, due to a bug, the traffic matching isn't working correctly out of the box. This means that some traffic will be slower than usual. The problem is being worked on and should be solved in the next 30 minutes or so. ---update 04/13/2009 22:50--- After several failed attempts to update the box to the latest firmware, it finally complete successfully and is optimizing traffic again. Monitoring traffic to see if the other problems are solved also.
Oasis outage fixed 2009-04-12 22:38
Oasis was unexpectedly out of service for much of the weekend. There was a configuration error that snuck in after an automated reset of the Apache service. Limited internet access over the weekend delayed my ability to fix the problem until late Sunday evening. -- Alex
