WWU Graduate Returns to Present Research
Ryan Jones Presents Lecture on Russian Environmentalism

Walla Walla University graduate Ryan Jones is returning to campus to present his research on Russian environmentalism in the North Pacific Ocean during the 19th century. The presentation will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. in Room 117 of the Administration Building. Colloquium credit will be available for history and environmental science students.
Jones graduated from WWU in 1998 after which he received a master’s degree in foreign service and history from Georgetown University and a doctoral degree from Columbia University. He is currently an assistant professor of history at Idaho State University. He will be releasing a book next year entitled “Empire of Extinction: Russians and the Strange Beasts of the Sea in the North Pacific, 1742-1867,” which will be published by Oxford University Press.
