WWC Reaches Capital Campaign Goal
Walla Walla College has reached the $18 million goal of Faith in the Vision: The Campaign for Walla Walla College. The capital campaign was launched four years ago to fund the revitalization of key areas of campus and provide modern facilities to replace outdated ones. It is the largest capital campaign in the history of the school.
“Walla Walla College is blessed to have a loyal and supportive alumni base to help us reach this incredible goal,” says Jon Dybdahl, president of WWC.
Several campaign remodeling and renovation projects have already been completed, including the renovation of the Canaday Technology Center. The center is the new home of the Communications Department and houses a new state-of-the-art Media Arts Center.
One of the first completed projects was the construction of new cabins and a dining hall at WWC's Marine Station at Rosario Beach.
Groundbreaking for the remaining two projects is expected to take place in 2005. A new Administration Building will replace the 111-year-old building razed in 2003. A new facility for the School of Social Work and Sociology will be located on the former site of Clara E. Rogers Elementary School.
The campaign was launched in 2000 during Alumni Weekend. At the time, $9 million had already been raised toward the goal of $18 million, a target set four years earlier when plans for the campaign were being set. WWC is currently working to surpass the original goal of $18 million to cover higher construction costs due to inflation.
Donors to the campaign include alumni, current students, friends to the college, as well as faculty, staff, and administrators. “It took all of us working together to make the goal happen,” says Karen Johnson, vice president for college advancement. “I fully believe that God blessed us immensely in this process.”
WWC will host a special Celebrate the Vision event during Homecoming Weekend 2005 to mark the occasion.
