College students from the three colleges in the Walla Walla Valley come together each spring for Service Day, helping with over 30 projects.
Walla Walla University, Whitman College, and Walla Walla Community College are partnering once again for the 4th annual Tri-College Service Day, April 22 (Earth Day) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The three colleges will work together – students, faculty, and staff – on 30 projects around the Walla Walla valley.
So far, over 454 participants have signed up to cover projects around Walla Walla and College Place. This year’s projects include helping senior residents with yard work and household chores, installing playground equipment, planting trees and stream restoration, and cleaning and developing picnic areas.
Last year’s projects included distributing energy-saving light bulbs, planting trees, picking up trash, leading museum tours, and polishing Main Street artwork.
“This is such a wonderful opportunity to bring the three colleges together and make the community we live in a better place,” says Bridget Bechtel, senior elementary education major at WWU. “It is so much fun to be part of an event that will both better the community and establish friendships that will keep the colleges in this valley connected for years to come,” Bechtel says.
