The team displays their banner at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure event in September.

In September the first Walla Walla University School of Nursing Team participated in the 17th Annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Portland, Oregon.

The nine nursing students and one faculty member on the team took turns carrying the Walla Walla University banner along the course of the race.  Prior to the race, team members wrote on the team banner the names of friends and family who had battled breast cancer.

As they came across the finish line, the announcer thanked Walla Walla University for participating in this important event.  While this was the first time they had entered a team in the Portland Komen event, they hope to make this an annual tradition.

Students participating in the event were seniors Kristine Jones, Brenda Torres, Hector Valdivia, Teresa Orazio, Julie Bounds, Karla Largent, Kristen Stumpe, and Sandra Seeley, and sophomore Ashley Tetz.  Their faculty sponsor was Karen Tetz.
