Walla Walla University students traveled to Honduras in March to begin the rebuilding of a school in Nueva Suyapa.
The Walla Walla University chapter of Engineers Without Borders (EWB-WWU) announces its fourth annual Hope for Honduras Gala on Sunday, April 29, at 6 p.m. at the Whitman College Reid Campus Center Ballroom.
The gala, benefiting children’s education in Honduras, will feature catered food with a dash for dessert, live music performed by WWU students, plus live and silent auctions. Honduran hammocks and coffee, Melody Muffler metal creations, an Oregon coast getaway, and golf packages are just a few of the items that will be auctioned.
Recently, EWB-WWU has been working in Nueva Suyapa, a small town in the mountains of northwestern Honduras. The town’s school classrooms were severely damaged in a major earthquake two years ago. Proceeds from the gala will go to build five new classrooms in Nueva Suyapa and 12 surrounding communities.
Friends of WWU and community members are invited to attend the Hope for Honduras event. For more information about EWB-WWU and ticket reservation, click the link below. Guests may purchase tickets by April 16 for an early bird rate of $40. After April 16, tickets may be purchased at $50 until April 24.
