Former Walla Walla College student Jenda Jones died Saturday, August 20, in a boating accident on Lake Tapps, near Sumner, Wash.
Jones finished her pre-professional physical therapy program at WWC this past year and began classes at Loma Linda University this summer.
While at WWC, Jones worked in the health and physical education department. She was a member of the women’s basketball team for three years, this year serving as team captain and voted most valuable player.

“In my 22 years of teaching and coaching, Jenda Jones was as good a team captain as we ever had and it was my privilege to coach her,” says Tim Windemuth, WWC athletics director. “She was an outstanding athlete, committed Christian, and had a great work ethic. We will miss her bright, shining face and positive outlook. She will truly be missed in the athletics department and on the rest of campus. Jenda was a quality person in every sense of the word.”
Jones is mourned by parents Marble and Doni Jones, sister Jeryl, a junior business administration major, and grandparents Don and Missy Dawes. Doni works in Student Financial Services at WWC and Don is a former technology faculty member.
A memorial service for Jones will be held Wednesday, August 24, at 2 p.m. in the Walla Walla College Church.
