College Name to Change Sept. 1, 2007
Walla Walla College will officially adopt the name Walla Walla University on September 1, 2007, pending approval from the Board of Trustees. A celebratory event will be held at the beginning of the 2007-08 academic year.
Throughout the year, a Name Change Transition Team will be managing issues related to changing the institution’s name. That team is coordinated by an executive group and chaired by Jim Hall, interim vice president for financial administration.
The name change was approved by 83 percent of delegates at the WWC constituency meeting on October 1.
As part of the transition, the phrase “Seventh-day Adventist Higher Education” will also be used as a descriptor to the university name to identify the school’s connection to the Seventh-day Adventist Church. “Our name may be changing, but, as always, our education will continue to be rooted in Seventh-day Adventist faith and tradition,” says WWC President John McVay.
