Alumnus Makes Everyday Items Works of Art

Semi-retired industrial painter spends more time on a pastime

In the midst of a career as a commercial and industrial painter, doing maintenance painting in the Williston Basin, North Dakota oilfields, WWU alumnus LeRoy Heavirland found the time and inspiration to embark on more creative painting projects, both small and large.

For one, he decided to paint an oil pumping unit to make it look like a giraffe.
