What is the purpose of CommUnity?

The purpose of the CommUnity program is to facilitate weekly opportunities for the entire campus to gather together for worship, academic reflection and discussion, celebrations of school spirit, social outreach, and civic enlightenment.

When are CommUnity programs offered?

CommUnity programs are offered Tuesdays at 11:00 a.m. Some CommUnity programs which do not occur on Tuesday include: Weeks of Worship, MLK Jr. Day, The Weekend, and Alumni Awards Celebration CommUnity. Other CommUnity program opportunities may be offered outside this campus-wide assembly and can be found on the CommUnity schedule

Who is required to attend CommUnity?

Students pursuing a baccalaureate degree and enrolled in six (6) or more credits are required to complete CommUnity program credit requirements each quarter. Attendance by administration, faculty, staff, and graduate students is encouraged. 

While all WWU students are invited and encourage to attend CommUnity programs, attendance is not required for:

  1. Students fulfilling mandatory student teaching or internship requirements.
  2. Students serving as student missionaries or studying in the Adventist Colleges Abroad program.
  3. Students holding a baccalaureate degree.
  4. Students enrolled for less than six (6) credit hours.
  5. Students with dependent children in their immediate care.
  6. Students who are married.
  7. Students who are at least 25 years of age.

How many CommUnity programs do I need to attend?

Undergraduate students are required to complete at least eleven (11) CommUnity credits fall and winter quarters and seven (7) credits spring quarter.

Typically, one CommUnity credit is available per CommUnity program. Please see the CommUnity schedule for a list of CommUnity programs available each quarter. 

How do I keep track of my CommUnity credits?

To check your CommUnity credit progress, log in to myWWU. On the myWWU dashboard, CommUnity credit status is displayed on the right middle of the page. After clicking on the number of credits listed below "CommUnity" there will be a green check mark next to every program you have received credit for. There will be a running total of the credits you have received and the credits needed at the bottom of the page.

Students are responsible for ensuring their CommUnity program attendance is accurately recorded on their myWWU home page.

Should a student’s CommUnity attendance not be accurately recorded on myWWU, the student has 72 hours from the time of the program to contact the office of the Dean of Students (CommUnity@wallawalla.edu) for correction. The CommUnity program credit record will not be corrected for any program after the 72 hour deadline.

How do I get CommUnity credit?

CommUnity programs are offered Tuesdays at 11:00 a.m. Some CommUnity programs which do not occur on Tuesday include: Weeks of Worship, MLK Jr. Day, The Weekend, and Alumni Awards Celebration CommUnity. Please see the CommUnity schedule for a list of CommUnity programs available each quarter. 

Check in for CommUnity attendance is taken at each program from 10:40 a.m. to 11:10 a.m. Students will be permitted to check out at the completion of the CommUnity program until 12:00 p.m.

Week of Worship programs are held Monday through Friday in the University Church Sanctuary fall and winter quarter and are available to attend for CommUnity credit. Check in and check out time are adjusted according to the Week of Worship schedule.

Students must check in and check out with their WWU issued student ID cards and attend the entire program in order to receive CommUnity credit.

Students arriving at CommUnity without their WWU issued student ID card may attend the CommUnity program for credit by emailing their name, student ID number, the date, the name of the speaker, and a summary of the CommUnity program to: CommUnity@wallawalla.edu. Students will be able to receive credit this way no more than twice per quarter.

What if I don't complete my CommUnity credit requirement?

Students who do not meet the CommUnity credit requirement may be subject to the following:

  1. CommUnity Probation Status for the current quarter, and after two quarters of probation status, the student may be subject to dismissal from WWU.
  2. Loss of campus privileges, which may include: varsity and intramural sports teams participation, ASWWU and class officer leadership, and/or other restrictions.
  3. Registration restrictions.
  4. Other discipline which may be determined.

Can I reduce my CommUnity credit requirement?

Students who have verified work-related conflicts during CommUnity programs may appeal for a reduction in CommUnity attendance requirements. CommUnity Reduction in Attendance Request forms are valid on a quarter by quarter basis and may be obtained online or from the office of the Dean of Students (at the street level of Kellogg Hall). A complete work schedule and class schedule are required with each quarters’ Reduction in Attendance Request form. This form must be submitted to the Dean of Students by the first Friday of the quarter.

When do I need to have my CommUnity credits completed?

All CommUnity credit requirements for a given quarter must be completed by noon on the last day of classes (the Friday before finals).
