Lady Wolves Split Double-Header

The Walla Walla University Women’s basketball team played a double-header this last weekend against Northwest Indian College. The Wolves had already beaten Northwest Indian earlier this year and were hoping to repeat that performance.

The first matchup was exciting from the tip. Both teams came out firing and connected on a variety of shots. The new Wolves’ offense looked much improved from earlier this season. It is true that Northwest Indian is not as good as some of the teams the Wolves went up against at the beginning of their season, but the confidence and chemistry that the girls showed on the floor was much improved.

As the first half came to a close, the score was still close. When the second half began, the Wolves immediately got Northwest Indian’s best player in foul trouble. This would prove to be a huge asset down the stretch. With Northwest Indian limited on players, the Wolves began to pull away. Heather McFadden and Sierra King led the second half charge and helped the Wolves take a double-digit lead over an exhausted Northwest Indian team. The final score of the game was 74-53. Sierra King was the games scoring leader with over thirty points.

Unfortunately, the second matchup for the Wolves did not go as well.  This game can be described as a series of missed opportunities. The girls came out and did an excellent job of running their offense, but they missed a ton of easy layups and could not make shots from the free throw line. Despite this, the girls never gave up on defense and kept the game close. Unfortunately, the missed shots caught up with the Wolves who lost to Northwest Indian 55-64.
