In order to become a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Washington, you must complete three requirements: Our master’s program meets the education requirement. The experience requirement consists of a minimum of thirty-six months full-time counseling or three thousand hours of postgraduate mental health counseling under the supervision of a qualified mental health counselor in an approved setting. Students who take and pass the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC), National Certification Exam (NCE) or the National Clinical Mental Health Counselor Examination (NCMHCE) have met the examination requirement. More detailed information can be obtained from the Washington State Department of Health.

Our graduates have successfully obtained employment in a variety of settings including community mental health agencies, private practices, psychiatric hospitals, schools, prisons, college counseling centers, and other health-related settings. Graduates of the thesis option are also prepared to continue their training in doctoral programs.
