Counseling Clinic

During the second year of their program, students will enroll in Practicum in Counseling PSYC 566, see Practica under Degree Requirements. Throughout this practicum, students will work in our free counseling center, Pathways to Change, located on the lower-level of Smith Hall. The counseling center is comprised of four private counseling rooms equipped with one-way mirrors and video-cameras. The focus of practicum is on the development of clinical skills with a variety of clients presenting with a diversity of concerns. Depending on students’ areas of interest and the availability of cases, their caseloads may consist of school-aged children, adolescents, adults, couples, or families. Program faculty provide four hours of group supervision and one hour of individual supervision in either live or videotaped formats on a weekly basis. Students will be responsible for maintaining client charts, for providing services according to all relevant legal and ethical guidelines, and for following clinic policies and procedures. The clinic operates Sunday through Thursday, 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.
