Dr. Shirley Diamond

Biography:

Dr. Shirley Diamond is an active performer, educator and clinician who is currently serving on the faculty of Central Washington University in Ellensburg, WA, as well as at Walla Walla College and Whitman College, where she teaches saxophone. Previously, she taught at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, Trinity Western university, Kwantlen University College, Douglas College and Indiana University.

Dr. Diamond has make concert appearances in Alaska, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Texas, and Washington, as well as in British Columbia, Canada. She has made presentations at various saxophone workshops and at College music Society conferences. In addition, she has adjudicated numerous music festivals in Washington, Texas, Iowas, Alaska and British Columbia, and has worked with a clinician with many high school and community groups in both the United States and Canada.

Actively promoting new music, Dr. Diamond has premiered several new compositions, including the world premiere performance of British composer Paul Clay's Wrong Bebop, a piece written for her, at the XIII World Saxophone Congress held in Minneapolis, MN, in July of 2003.

Dr. Diamond holds degrees in saxophone performance from the University of British columbia, the University of Texas at Austin, and Indiana University. Included among her former teachers are Eugene Rousseau and Harvey Pittel.
