Subject Areas: Concert Choir, I Cantori, Choral Conducting, Form and Analysis, Counterpoint Biography: John Dennison, WWC's new Director of Choral Activities, has taught music at every educational level. He obtained his bachelor's and master's degrees from California State University in Los Angeles. He subsequently obtained his D.M.A. in Church Music from the University of Southern California, and served as Chair of the Music Department at Oakwood College from 1984 through 1987. He also served as the director of the Chorale and College Choir at El Camino Community College and served as the director of the Sanctuary Choir at the Glendale City SDA Church in Glendale, CA. In addition, for fourteen years he held an appointment as Musical Director and Conductor of the Southeast Symphony Orchestra in Los Angeles, CA. Dr. Dennison has studied choral and orchestral conducting with many noted conductors including Daniel Lewis, Rodney Eichenberger, and Harold Farberman. For eight consecutive summer terms he was selected as one of twelve people to personally study with Maestro Herbert Bloomstedt at the International Institute of Orchestral Conducting held at Loma Linda University in Riverside, CA. During the 2003-2004 school year Dr. Dennison led the WWC choirs and orchestra in a variety of works, culminating in a performance of Rossini's Stabat Mater this past June. He plans to present a major choral/orchestra work each year. |
