School of Social Work and Sociology renamedCategory:
in honor of founder Wilma Hepker
The Wilma Hepker School of Social Work and Sociology. That has a nice ring, doesn’t it?
Now it’s official. The Walla Walla College Board of Trustees recently voted to recognize the retiring professor and dean by renaming the social work program in her honor.
President Jon Dybdahl announced the decision to the campus, and Hepker, during a faculty meeting March 8 where she was presented with flowers and balloons. After 33 years as a professor at WWC, Hepker will retire this September.
Hepker helped to develop the social work program at WWC, beginning with a bachelor’s degree in 1973. She was also instrumental in guiding the program into a master’s degree, which now has three campuses in two states.
