First-time freshmen are spending a week on campus before the school year starts next week, giving them time to settle into campus life.

The program, called JumpStart, helps to eliminate some of the stress of entering college through a weeklong program that includes information sessions and social activities. The information session topics range from how to handle homework to money management and career planning.

More than 400 students are taking part in this program. Throughout the week, JumpStart students attend various social activities, information seminars, and sessions on the registration process around campus. To view the full event schedule, see: www.wallawalla.edu/fileadmin/user_upload/advisement/Basic_JS_Schedule.pdf.

JumpStart provides many opportunities to meet new friends during fun group activities. Another benefit of JumpStart is that it provides the opportunity to become more familiar with the layout of the campus and to meet future professors before setting foot inside the classroom.

Although JumpStart is designed for first-time freshmen, transfer students are welcome to join the program. An orientation for students transferring with more than 36 credits will be held on Thursday, Sept. 26, beginning at 9 a.m. in Chan Shun Pavilion room 154. Registration or enrollment in the JumpStart program is not required for this orientation.

JumpStart is organized by the Academic Advisement office. To see a program schedule, or for more information, visit www.wallawalla.edu/jumpstart.
