Recital Features Charles Reid and Kraig Scott
On Saturday, June 7, leading lyric tenor Charles Reid will join Walla Walla University’s Kraig Scott for a guest artist recital in the University Church. Beginning at 7:30 p.m., Scott will accompany Reid on the piano during this event, which is co-sponsored by the WWU Department of Music and the Walla Walla Adventist Forum.
Reid is acknowledged as one his generation’s leading lyric tenors, having sung with The Metropolitan Opera, the San Francisco Opera, Frankfurt Opera, and more. He has also performed for the festivals of Bayreuth, Salzburg, Spoleto USA, and Glimmerglass.
Recently, Reid has performed roles such as Alfredo, Duca di Mantua, and Macduff with the Nationaltheater Mannheim, Deutsche Oper am Rhein (Dusseldorf), and more. After Reid performed as Alfredo, critic Gabor Halasz wrote, “Charles Reid gave a vocal and musical performance… without any limitations or boundaries, with a shimmering tenor voice, flawless technique, extraordinary feeling for style, and very clear intonation.”
In addition to performing worldwide, Reid is also an associate professor and Director of Vocal Studies at Andrews University. He also serves as an Artist in Residence at the university.
Kraig Scott has been a professor in the WWU Department of Music since 1986. He is the director of the choral program at WWU, teaches organ and harpsichord students, and also serves as organist and minister of music for the University Church. As a soloist he has performed recitals in eleven states and ten countries, including Dunblane Cathedral in Scotland and the Sejong Cultural Center in South Korea.
