Record-High Proceeds Donated to Fight Breast Cancer
On Sunday, Oct. 27, AGA, the Walla Walla University women’s residence club, held its annual 5K Fun Run. More than 100 students, faculty, alumni, family, and community members all arrived at 7:30 a.m. to participate in the 2013 breast cancer fundraiser, and, along with the 20 volunteers who aided in set-up and take-down, helped AGA to raise a record-high $2,000.
Out of the 107 participants, WWU student Howard Heaton took first place, finishing with a time of 18:27. The rest of the results are:
Overall Winner: Howard Heaton, 18:27
1st Runner up: Richie Hammen, 18:50
2nd Runner up: Jonathan Woodruff, 18:51
3rd Runner up: Rob Falkenberg, 20:19
1st Runner up: Kristen Smith, 23:23
2nd Runner up: Katie Sloop, 23:29
3rd Runner up: Krista Davidson, 23:37
This $2,000 raised is 178 percent more than raised the previous year. All of the proceeds are donated to the Breast Cancer Special Needs Fund and Providence St. Mary Regional Cancer Center in Walla Walla.
The event was also sponsored by many local businesses, including Andy’s Market, Blue Palm Yogurt, Bright’s Candies, Graze, Great Clips, J.U.G.S., The Maple Counter Café, Pictor Graphics, Positive Life Radio, Roger’s Bakery & Café, and Stone Soup Café.
