Choir/Orchestra Festival Begins January 22
Beginning Wed., Jan. 22, Adventist high school students from across the Northwest will come together at Walla Walla University for the 2014 Choir and Orchestra Festival.
Following several days of intense practice, the choir and the orchestra will perform their music on Sabbath, Jan. 25 at the University Church’s 11:45 p.m. worship service, and at a 4 p.m. concert, also to be held at the church.
During this festival, students will work on orchestra selections, unaccompanied choral music, and choral music accompanied by piano, organ string ensemble, and full symphony orchestra. This year, wind instruments from the WWU orchestra will join the festival musicians for one piece by Ludwig van Beethoven, giving the choir an opportunity to experience singing with a full symphony orchestra.
Kraig Scott will conduct the choir and Benjamin Gish will conduct the orchestra.
As Scott says, the goal of the festival is “to allow serious young musicians from all across the Northwest to experience the joy of bringing great music to life.”
Participating schools include:
Auburn Adventist Academy
Gem State Academy
Milo Adventist Academy
Mount Ellis Academy
Portland Adventist Academy
Skagit Adventist Academy
Upper Columbia Academy
Walla Walla Valley Academy
Yakima Adventist Christian School
This music festival is held annually, alternating between choir/orchestra and band.
