Dec. 13 Concert Will be Performed in the University Church
On Friday, Dec. 13, Walla Walla University’s Department of Music will usher in the Christmas season with its annual Christmas concert. This year’s concert, titled “O Magnum Mysterium,” will be performed by the University Singers, I Cantori, and the Symphony Orchestra at 6 p.m. and also at 8 p.m. on Friday evening.
The primary work that will be performed for the concert is the “Magnificat,” composed by Jonathan Willcocks. It shares the song of Mary, mother of Jesus, as told in Luke 1:46-55, and emanates a sense of wonder at the incarnation of Jesus Christ. During the concert, listeners will be taken through the story of Christ’s first advent and experience the hope brought by his second advent.
“O Magnum Mysterium” will be separated into three parts and will connect several styles of music, ranging from the “Magnificat” to the well-known Christmas carol “Still Still Still.” Kraig Scott, director of the University Singers and I Cantori, and Brandon Beck, director of the Symphony Orchestra, will lead their respective groups in providing this holiday gift to the community.
The Christmas concert will be available online through live stream at 8 p.m. on Friday evening at www.wallawalla.edu/concert.
Both concerts will be performed in the University Church, which is located at 212 SW 4th St., College Place, Wa.
