Cultural Events

The Music Department presents several major concerts each year, showcasing the WWU chorale, orchestra and band. Faculty and students also regularly perform in solo recitals, and as guest artists with the Walla Walla Symphony.

The Music Department offers private lessons to children through its piano and string preparatory divisions. Professors and students of the department also teach lessons in other areas, such as voice, organ and guitar.

Special guests provide musical performances throughout the year. The Music Department conducts a chamber series featuring musicians who perform on campus, and some conduct seminars.

"wwcdrama," the college's drama program, produces three to four theatrical productions each year. Recent productions have included; "Proof," by David Auburn; "The Diary of Anne Frank," by Frances Goodrich; "The Pirates of Penzance," by W.S. Gilbert and Sir Arthur Sullivan; and the annual festival of student-directed one-act plays.

The Clyde and Mary Harris Art Gallery, located in the Melvin K. West Fine Arts Center, hosts shows by visiting and local artists as well as faculty and students.

Distinguished speakers are invited to campus for public events such as the Martin Luther King, Jr., Chapel; Black History Month; and Distinguished Scholar Lectures. Speakers have included Ron Sims, CEO of King County, Wash.; Rudolph Crew, Chancellor of NYC Public Schools; Oregon Shakespeare Festival actors; and Anson Rainey, an archaeologist and historical geographer at Tel Aviv University.

The student association (ASWWC) and the office of Student Activities present movies and live concerts every year. Events take place in the Student Activity Center (SAC), in the basement of Kellogg Hall. These events are open to the public.
