Rosario Beach Summer Biology Program
Each summer, the Biology Department offers a two-month study program at the Walla Walla University Marine Station located on Rosario Beach near Anacortes, Wash. The campus includes 45 acres of timberland, hill, wetlands, and 300 feet of beachfront on Rosario Strait.
The campus is divided into three major areas:
- The beach
- The upper area
- The backwoods
The campus' location provides close proximity to a variety of intertidal habitats including tidepools, sandy and rocky beaches, and mud flats. Nearby, Deception Pass State Park, the San Juan Islands, North Cascades National Park, the Washington coastline, and a variety of offsore marine habitats give students more opportunities for intensive study in biology, geology, oceanography and environmental studies.
Facilities on site include eight teaching and research laboratories, as well as a library, computer room, photographic darkroom, and scuba facilities. Students are housed in one of 24 cabins dotting the coastline, or in one of several dormitory rooms.
